Sounds Of Childhood Project Launch

We have great pleasure in inviting you to attend the launch of this exciting project.
Book a place at the Friday 29th January launch event and bring along your early years children to an afternoon of fun with sounds on Saturday 30th January in Doncaster town centre.
This is a collaboration between Doncaster Civic Trust, Sheffield University and The Bower Wirks and is part of the Trust’s built environment education programme.

‘Build a New Doncaster’ Architecture Competition Results

We are pleased to announce the winners of the architecture competition are Hexthorpe Primary School who win the £500 Eric Braim Prize for their designs for a train museum.
Runners-up were Stirling Primary School – second prize. Woodfield Primary and Edlington Victoria Primary shared the third prize.

Toolkit4Doncaster
Doncaster Civic Trust would like to invite you to an exhibition of our new education project.
Over the last few months, the Trust have been working in partnership with Sheffield University and its school of architecture to develop an educational toolkit to help Doncaster’s young people get a better understanding of our rich built heritage.
We will be showcasing the work of Sheffield School of Architecture on Wednesday 31st October at St Peter’s church hall on Chequer Road, Doncaster between 3:30-5:30pm.
At the exhibition you can view our new ‘Toolkit’ and meet the people who created it.
We look forward to seeing you.
We plan make the toolkit available to schools in early 2013.

Mexborough Conservation Area Appraisal
Doncaster Civic Trust has been assisting Doncaster Council’s building conservation team as it undertakes a programme of appraisals of the borough’s many conservation areas. The Trust has been providing historical research and advising on architectural and historical details.
Mexborough is the latest conservation area appraisal to be completed, and the final draft is out for public consultation between 14 May and 29 June 2012.

Student Bursary and News from the AGM
Chairman John Holmes opened the meeting and announced that the Trust had agreed to sponsor a student bursary scheme, to help local students through university courses in architecture, town planning, urban design, landscape architecture, building conservation and traditional building crafts.
The scheme will be launched on 05 December 2011, and will help fund students on courses starting in September 2012. Full details are on this website under the heading Student Bursary.
Treasurer Lyn Cowles stood down from the Executive Committee and the post of Treasurer. She was thanked for her hard work, wisdom and good practice advice over the last eight years.
Peter Coote was elected Membership Secretary, and Symeon Waller was elected to join the Executive Committee.
