Heritage Open Days
City of Doncaster Heritage Open Days 11th to 20th September 2026
Doncaster Civic Trust is proud to support Heritage Open Days. This is England’s largest festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year for 10 days in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It offers the public a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
This year’s theme is “Everyday Histories” and the festival runs from Friday 11th September to Sunday 20th September. Here in Doncaster we have over 80 Free events available from talks, walks and workshops to a chance to look around Heritage properties, not always available to the public.
This year there are also online events and event a Family Heritage Quiz Walk “Become a Donny Spotter” to take part in around the city centre.

- Thursday 17th September – “Things that Yorkshire gave to the world” An illustrated talk by Catherine Taggart has been cancelled by the speaker due to a change in circumstances, (she will give the talk in the Spring). The talk will now be the following “Opening the Door” – a brief history of Country House Visiting an illustrated talk by David Winpenny of Ripon. (See later in the bulletin for details of this talk). The venue and time remains the same.
